Kentucky-bred Cy Fair swept to the front in the lane to score a clear victory over Brussels (GB) in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) at Del Mar.

Racing for Swinbank Stables, Medallion Racing and Joey Platts, et al, Cy Fair roared past pacesetting Schwarzenegger in upper stretch and held at bay a late rally from Brussels to kick off the 42nd Breeders’ Cup. Trained by George Weaver and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Cy Fair covered the five furlongs over a firm turf course in :56.02. Bred in Kentucky by Marc Keller, Cy Fair is now just the second filly to win the race, joining Twilight Gleaming (IRE) in 2021.

“I can’t describe it,” said George Weaver. “It’s why we all get in the game. It’s hard to win these big races like this, and it’s my first Breeders’ Cup. We’ve had a great year, and I’m thankful to my staff, thankful to all the clients that supported me. She’s been a bullet all year long. She looked fantastic at Woodbine, like a super, special horse. She came over here and did it against the best in the world. We’re thrilled.”

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Not This Time, Cy Fair is out of the Arch mare Remarqued. The victory was worth $520,000 and increased Cy Fair’s earnings to $780,205 with a record of 4-3-1-0.
