Back to Our News PageSt. Elias Stables and WSS Racing’s Kentucky-bred Eunomia shipped in from the East Coast to score in Del Mar’s $400,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1). The victory earned Eunomia a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Keeneland.
The 4-year-old daughter of Tiz the Law registered the fifth victory of her career in her 16th start. She picked up a check for $240,000, increasing her bankroll to $566,193. Bred in Kentucky by Breed First, Eunomia is trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. and was ridden by Micah Husbands.
“Ideally, I wanted her to sit just behind the front runners, but the filly was a bit keen,” said Joseph. “I had told Micah, she doesn’t like to fight you, so he didn’t do that and instead got into a good rhythm where she got comfortable. We got first run on them.”
Husbands added of the victory, “I didn’t have any special instructions on how to ride her. Saffie just told me to find a good sport and make her comfortable. She did just that. I could tell they weren’t going that fast for these type horses, so I was comfortable with her all the way. She gave me a good kick and we got it done. My first ride at Del Mar and it was a good one.”
Eunomia is produced from the American Pharoah mare Speedy Vanessa. Eunomia first sold at the Keeneland September Sale in 2023 and then again at the OBS March Sale the following year as a 2-year-old. The bay filly now boasts a record of 16-5-1-2 and she has banked $566,193.
