Shedaresthedevil led a 1-2-3 finish by Kentucky-bred fillies in Friday’s $1.25 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs.

Shedaresthedevil bested Swiss Skydiver by 1 1/2-lengths, with Gamine in third by a similar margin. The top two finishers are both daughters of Daredevil and were bred by WinStar Farm, while third-place finisher Gamine was bred by Grace Thoroughbred Holdings.

Shedaresthedevil, a two-time Grade 3 winner coming into the Oaks, got a very heady ride by Florent Geroux, first stalking Gamine before taking over in upper stretch, then holding off the imposing Swiss Skydiver to win by 1 1/2-lengths in a stakes record 1:48.28 for the 1 1/8 miles on a fast main track.

The winner became racing’s newest millionaire with her victory, and has now earned $1,245,768 for trainer Brad Cox and owners Flurry Racing Stables, Qatar Racing Ltd. And Big Aut Farms.

Cox and Geroux also teamed up on Friday to win the Grade 1 La Troienne Monomoy Girl, who was bred in Kentucky by FPF LLC and Highfield Ranch. Monomoy Girl, 5, won the 2018 Kentucky Oaks and Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) that same year as part of her championship season. After missing all of 2019, she has come back good as ever and is undefeated in three starts this year.

Owned by Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, The Elkstone Group and Bethlehem Stables, Monomoy Girl has won 12 of 14 starts, with two seconds, and has earned $3,386,818.
