Kentucky-bred Scandinavia extended his winning streak to eight with a determined victory in the Irish St. Leger (G1) at The Curragh on Sept. 13.
The classy son of Justify trained by Aidan O’Brien has now triumphed in five Group 1 races. He has additional wins in the Betfred Sr. Leger (G1), the Gold Cup S. (G1) at Ascot, and the Goodwood Cup S. (G1) in back-to-back years.
Owned by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Susan Magnier, Scandinavia has banked more than $2.4 million and owns an overall record of 13-9-1-1.He was bred in Kentucky by Orpendale/Chelston/Wynatt, and the 4-year-old is produced from the Galileo (IRE) mare Fabulous (IRE).
“He’s a great horse,” O’Brien said to Racing Post. “He has an unbelievable amount of stamina, a big, high-cruising stamina. Ryan (Moore) said he really only kicks in after a mile and 6 (furlongs), which is very unusual, and the ground is probably as soft as he wants it because he’s a very good mover.”
