Back to Our News PageWest Point Thoroughbreds, Robert C. Gardiner and Spartan Equine Racing et al’s Kentucky-bred Super Corredora scored an impressive win in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Del Mar on Future Stars Friday.
Trained by John Sadler and ridden by Hector Berrios, Super Corredora rocketed to the front at the start. She held off a late bid from race favorite Explora to win by three-quarters of a length at the finish. She completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.71.
Super Corredora outraced Explora and La Wally to the first turn and set fractions of :22.42 and :45.63 while holding a clear advantage. She maintained that edge into the stretch and had enough to hold off Explora with Percy’s Bar another three lengths back in third.
“She’s a filly we had really high hopes for,” said John Sadler. “We always expected she could get two turns. She has a beautiful stride. We weren’t sure we were going to run but we trained her a little bit here and she trained well. And here we are.”
Making her stakes debut, Super Corredora is a Kentucky-bred daughter of Gun Runner out of the Super Saver mare Super Simple. The victory was worth $1,040,000 and improved Super Corredora’s earnings to $1,093,600 with a record of 4-2-1-0. She was bred in the Bluegrass by Woodford Thoroughbreds.
